Sleep Facts is an independent UK guide to sleep. We read the research on how sleep works, what it does for health and what helps you sleep, grade how strong each finding is and explain it in plain English. We sell nothing, run no adverts or affiliate links, and take no money or free products from companies in the sleep business.

Why does this site exist?

Most sleep advice online comes from companies with something to sell: a mattress, a supplement, a tracker or an app. Some of it is sound. A lot of it isn’t, and it’s hard to tell which is which without reading the studies. Sleep Facts reads them for you, says how good the evidence is, and links to the source for every health claim, so you can check it yourself.

Who writes it?

The site is written and edited by Tess Marlow, the pen name of its editor. Tess isn’t a doctor or sleep scientist, which is why every claim is tied to its source and graded with a published method. We would like a qualified clinician to review the health pages; when one does, their name and qualifications will appear on every page they check.

How is it paid for?

By its owner. There are no adverts, sponsors or affiliate links, and nothing for sale. If that ever changes, we will say so clearly on every page it affects, and it will not change what we say about the evidence.

What do we cover?

Five areas, in the order most people need them: how sleep works, why it matters, how to sleep better, sleep aids and sleep problems. Within each, we answer the questions UK readers actually search for, and we are as careful about what the research doesn’t show as what it does. The rules we follow are in our editorial policy.
